Capoeira - Capoeira Batuque Affiliate
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century. It is known for its quick and complex maneuvers, predominantly using power, speed, and leverage across a wide variety of kicks, spins, and other techniques.
The most widely accepted origin of the word capoeira comes from the Tupi words ka’a (“jungle”) e pûer (“it was”), referring to the areas of low vegetation in the Brazilian interior where fugitive slaves would hide. A practitioner of the art is called a capoeirista.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - John Machado Affiliate
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was formed from Kodokan Judo ground fighting, fundamentals that were taught by a number of individuals. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu eventually came to be its own combat sport through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu through Carlos and Hélio Gracie.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves or another against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and in self-defense situations.
Eskrima- S.L.D. Affiliate
Eskrima, also known as Kali or Arnis is the national sport and martial art of the Philippines. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines (“Filipino Martial Arts”, or FMA) that emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons as well as “open hand” or techniques without weapons. It is also known as Estoque (Spanish for rapier), Estocada (Spanish for thrust or stab) and Garrote (Spanish for club). In Luzon it may go by the name of Arnis de Mano.

“I’ve been practicing Capoeira with Contra Mestre Xingu for a few years, it is the best work out I’ve ever experienced

Ben B.
I’ve had an amazing experience taking all the classes here. People are friendly, fun, and encouraging. The best part is, if you ask me to do some of the acrobatic movements I do now a year ago, I’d tell you, “You’re crazy!” Yet here I am, doing some moves I didn’t even know was physically possible!

It’s a cozy little studio, but it is a caring and supportive environment to learn and grow. My friend and I decided to try it on a whim and we’ve been very satisfied with our experiences there.
