Fernando began his martial arts journey at a young age, starting with Taekwondo, followed by Hung Gar Kung Fu and kickboxing. In 2002, he embarked on his grappling path with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Tri-Star Gym under Ivan Menjnavar. After moving to Los Angeles, Fernando trained under judo legend Gene LeBell and Gokor Chivichiyan at Hayastan Grappling Academy, studying judo and Hayastan Jiu-Jitsu. He later trained under Fabricio Werdum in Venice Beach, earning his BJJ blue belt. Following a hiatus, Fernando relocated to West Hollywood, training under Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles Maciel at Cobrinha BJJ/Alliance Los Angeles, where he competed as a blue belt in IBJJF, NABJJF, and Jiu-Jitsu World League events from 2015-2018 taking silver at the IBJJF Long Beach Open and silver at NABJJF All-Americas. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, he trained under Pete Snyder at Peachtree Combat Fitness, achieving his brown belt. Today, Fernando continues to hone his skills under Xingú Del Rosario at XLVCB.
